Phantom Blade Zero tops 3 million wishlists and $14.5M in pre-orders
Phantom Blade Zero has crossed 3 million wishlists across PC and PS5, and Steam pre-orders alone have already generated an estimated $14.5 million in revenue — before the game ships. Chinese studio S-GAME confirmed the wishlist milestone on September 18, and third-party analyst firm Alinea Analytics put the Steam pre-order count at roughly 300,000 within the first few days of availability. For context, that pace is running at about 73% of Black Myth: Wukong's pre-launch velocity at the same point — which went on to sell tens of millions of copies.
The game
Phantom Blade Zero is a dark action title set in a fantastical universe blending East Asian culture, steampunk, and occultism. You play as Soul, an assassin who is killed after completing a job, revived by a mysterious Doctor, and given just 66 days to settle his affairs. Combat is the centrepiece: Soul can wield 30 primary weapons and 20 secondary ones, and the game lets you chain them freely mid-fight. The campaign runs around 30 hours, with an additional 30–35 hours of side content. Four difficulty settings are available, and if you die in a boss's second phase, you restart from that phase — not the beginning.
One specific marketing moment stands out. An August 2026 trailer revealed that martial arts star Donnie Yen (John Wick: Chapter 4, Ip Man) has been collaborating with S-GAME since 2023 on combat choreography and also plays a brief boss role. The studio credits that reveal as the catalyst that pushed pre-order interest well beyond expectations.
The numbers
Over 50% of those 3 million wishlists come from outside China, per Twisted Voxel, which is a meaningful contrast to Black Myth: Wukong — roughly 70% of Wukong's sales were domestic. Phantom Blade Zero hit No. 1 on the Steam sales chart within a day of pre-orders opening, reports WCCFtech, drawing comparisons to Elden Ring's launch momentum relative to its player base at the time.
