SiN: Reloaded launches today on PC and consoles — 28 years after the original

SiN: Reloaded is out now — September 24, 2026 — on PC and consoles, ending a wait that stretches back to a 2021 announcement and a 2023 funding freeze that nearly killed the project. Nightdive Studios, the Atari-owned remaster specialist behind System Shock and Turok, has shipped the completed game to Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, as well as PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch (both generations). It is the first time SiN has ever appeared on a console.

The original

SiN was developed by Ritual Entertainment and published by Activision in November 1998, running on a modified Quake II engine. It arrived weeks after Half-Life and sold poorly against that game's runaway momentum — a fate that turned SiN into a cult curiosity rather than a franchise. The game stood out for its cinematic plot, scripted sequences, and its villain Elexis Sinclaire, a CEO-turned-bioterrorist whose character design preceded Lady Dimitrescu by over two decades. Nightdive acquired the rights in 2020, per TechPowerUp, and re-released the original as SiN: Gold before beginning work on a full remaster.

What's new

SiN: Reloaded includes the original campaign plus the Wages of SiN expansion, with all previously cut content restored. The technical upgrades run deep: 4K resolution at up to 144 FPS, HD textures, improved level geometry, a modernized UI with full gamepad support, an enhanced soundtrack, and achievement support across platforms. A real-time toggle lets players switch between the remastered and original graphics on the fly — a feature Nightdive has used to good effect on its Heretic and Hexen remasters as well.

Nightdive describes the game as "a story-driven first-person shooter — a true rough diamond, memorable for its vivid characters, creepy enemies, and a destructive arsenal that pushed the Quake II engine to its limits."

A free demo is available on all platforms right now.

The bigger picture

Nightdive's track record with 90s shooters is arguably the strongest in the business — the studio has been quietly Looking forward to QuakeCon 2025: Nightdive Studios hints at the imminent announcement of a Quake 3 Arena remaster too. For SiN specifically, the console debut opens the game to an audience that never had a chance to play it.
