Kena: Scars of Kosmora Slips to 2027 on PS5 and PC
If you were planning to play Kena: Scars of Kosmora this holiday season, you can stop. Developer Ember Lab has pushed the sequel from 2026 to 2027, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog. The game was only announced in February. The studio says the extra time will go toward polish and a bigger scope. No month or quarter has been confirmed.
The delay
Ember Lab, founded by former Pixar animators, says it wants the sequel to beat the quality of the first game on a larger scale. That is standard delay language, and the studio has not mentioned any production trouble. Since the February reveal, the public has seen only the debut trailer. To soften the news, the studio released new artwork.
The game
Kena returns in a new region, the island of Kosmora. Her goal is to find a cure for a mysterious illness, and she also hopes to reunite with someone from her past. Ember Lab describes a linear, character-focused story with a broader scope than the 2021 original.
The big new addition is Spirit Guide temples. The studio's description points to tougher challenges, likely boss fights, with new abilities as rewards. That structure invites comparisons to Zelda-style dungeons. Kena will also have a crystal canine companion, and the helpful Rot creatures from the first game are expected to return.
Platforms and price
Scars of Kosmora is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PC. The PS5 version will come in physical and digital editions. The PC version will be digital only, through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
There is no price yet, and no pre-order details for the US or UK. The first game launched in 2021 as one of the early PS5 exclusives and later reached PC. It also arrived on the Switch 2 in March, with a free anniversary update. Ember Lab has not announced a Switch 2 version of the sequel.
If you haven't played the original, the extra months give you time to catch up. It is a short, colorful action-adventure that holds up well on current hardware.
For now, 2027 is the only window. A firmer date will probably come with the next trailer.
