Xbox adds its own Platinum Trophy: Mythic Achievements
If you've ever cleared 100% of a game's achievements on Xbox and got nothing but a number going up, that's changing. Microsoft began rolling out Mythic Achievements to Xbox Insiders on September 29, according to Xbox Wire. It is Xbox's answer to PlayStation's Platinum Trophy, which has existed since 2008. A wider release is planned for later.
How it works
A Mythic Achievement unlocks when you complete every achievement that shipped with a game at launch. Anything added later through DLC or updates is optional and doesn't count. That matters because, until now, a surprise expansion could quietly undo a finished 100% run.
The feature also works backwards. It applies to past games, including Xbox 360 titles, and appears automatically once you qualify. There is nothing to opt into. Games you're close to finishing get a new progress indicator in your library.
Your profile gets a new Gaming tab that lists your Mythic games. Those titles get a "heroic" frame so they stand out. You can also open friends' tabs to see which games they've mastered.
Why now
Asha Sharma, the Xbox CEO, teased the feature in August, calling it one of the most-requested additions in years. Achievement hunters have asked for a Platinum-style prize since the Xbox 360 era. TheGamer notes the difference in feel: a Platinum lands as an event, while a finished Xbox game just gets absorbed into your Gamerscore.
It also fits a pattern. Xbox has been shipping player-requested changes at speed, including the Disc2Digital tool for converting physical games to digital. And with 360 games heading to PC, a retroactive prize gives old libraries a fresh reason to be revisited.
Availability
Nothing is region-locked, and the feature is free. If you're not in the Insider program, you'll have to wait for the general release. Microsoft hasn't given an exact date beyond "later."
The cosmetic reward changes nothing about how games play. But for completionists who have watched PlayStation friends collect shiny Platinums for 18 years, it's a long-overdue acknowledgment.
