Retroid Pocket Duo Lite: a dual-screen Android handheld for $149
Retroid has launched the Pocket Duo Lite, a dual-screen clamshell handheld aimed at DS and 3DS emulation, starting at $149. That puts it $120 below the flagship Pocket Duo ($269) and squarely in the entry tier — though Anbernic's RG DS Plus undercuts it at around $95. Pre-orders opened September 11 on goretroid.com, with the Duo Lite shipping from September 17.
The hardware
The Duo Lite runs a Qualcomm QCS6125 chip (Adreno 610 GPU) paired with either 4GB RAM and 64GB storage ($149) or 6GB RAM and 128GB storage ($169). Both configurations run Android 15. The two LCD screens — a 5.5-inch primary and a 4.2-inch secondary — refresh at 60Hz, which is standard for this price range; the flagship Duo uses AMOLED panels at 120Hz. Weight comes in at 372 grams, and a 6,000mAh battery keeps things running, though two active screens will drain it faster than a single-display device.
For connectivity, you get Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus in-line shoulder buttons designed to mimic the DS layout. The Duo Lite targets GameCube-era and lighter 3DS emulation; the pricier Duo ($269) handles PS2, runs Android 16, and uses a faster Qualcomm Q-7790 chip with an AMOLED display stack.
The value question
At $149, the Duo Lite sits in an awkward spot. Anbernic's RG DS Plus, which also replicates the dual-screen DS form factor, starts at around $85–$95 — a meaningful gap for a device in this category. Retroid's counter-argument is Android 15 software support and a more developed app ecosystem, but the emulation performance difference between the two chips will only become clear once independent reviews land.
The flagship Duo's $269 price point is easier to justify: AMOLED screens, the faster Q-7790 chipset, Android 16, and official OTA update support. The Duo Lite's long-term software support hasn't been explicitly confirmed by Retroid.
US pre-order codes (DUOLITE and DUO) are valid through September 30 and October 31 respectively. Outside the US, the only confirmed channel is goretroid.com — Amazon and AliExpress timing hasn't been announced. UK buyers should factor in shipping costs and potential import duties before committing.
