Yamaha's new R200A stereo receiver gives budget hi-fi setups a turntable input, two-device Bluetooth and a subwoofer output for $299.95 in the US. It replaces the R-S202, a low-cost staple since 2016, and goes on sale in November 2026. For anyone building a first stereo around vinyl or a pair of old speakers, it is a rare new option at this price.

The hardware

The R200A delivers 100W per channel into 8-ohm speakers and 115W into 4 ohms. A Speaker A/B switch lets you run two pairs of speakers and flip between them. Yamaha also fitted new screw-type speaker terminals for firmer cable connections.

A dedicated phono input handles turntables with a moving-magnet cartridge, the most common type. A typical record player therefore needs no separate phono preamp. A subwoofer output and a tuner with 40 presets round out the back panel.

Inside, Yamaha reworked the circuitry and grounding, added a new heat sink and put a central brace in the chassis to damp vibration. The company says the changes give cleaner sound. That claim needs independent reviews to confirm.

Wireless is Bluetooth 5.3 with Multipoint, so two phones or a phone and a laptop can stay paired and take turns. There is no Wi-Fi or network streaming. If you want Spotify Connect or multiroom audio, look elsewhere. Yamaha also recently shrank its home cinema range with a compact Dolby Atmos soundbar, but the R200A is aimed squarely at two-channel listeners.

The price

The R200A is not a price freeze. Ecoustics lists the R-S202 at $249.95 and the new model at $299.95, so the extra features cost $50 more. The same site puts Sony's STR-DH190 at $249. It has phono and Bluetooth but no subwoofer output and an older Bluetooth version. Ecoustics also notes that competition below $350 is limited.

US pre-orders are open at B&H; Photo, with stock expected in mid-November. The receiver comes in black or silver.

Outside the US

Europe gets the R200A in autumn 2026 at €369 including VAT. European listings mention a DAB+ digital radio tuner, while US specs only cite AM/FM, so tuner hardware may differ by region.

Yamaha has not announced UK pricing or retailers. A straight conversion of €369 lands around £315 to £320, but that is arithmetic, not a Yamaha price. If US units look cheaper, check the warranty and power-plug situation before importing one.
